You have to like yourself to live in the country. That’s because out here you have so much time alone with yourself. If you don’t get along with yourself, you’ll be in trouble! Of course that’s true anywhere, but especially way out in the sticks.
Where I live, often you can walk for over an hour along the main road through the middle of our farm community without seeing another human being or car. There is plenty of time and space, plenty of silence broken only by the wind and the cries of cows and wild animals. Enough silence to hear the faint sound of a freight train miles away, chugging through the night—plenty of space and time to think.
That’s why really wise people prefer to live in the country. It gives them the time and space they need to discover their real self, to find their perfect body. There’s a lot to it, a lot of wrong-headed notions to get over and give up, to reach the Truth. Maybe it’s easier to start backwards.
What would it be like to have a perfect body? Well, perfect means perfect. If you had a perfect body, there would be no unhappiness, no problems, no suffering of any kind. If your body or consciousness experiences problems, unhappiness or suffering, you’re not there yet. You need to go deeper.
What does that mean, “go deeper”? It means to cast off whatever shell you’re wearing around your pure consciousness, and find a more essential level of your being. If you’re still seeing negativity, problems and suffering, you’re not deep enough. You still haven’t found your perfect body.
There is a way to clear up all this stuff that’s keeping you from finding your perfect body, and that’s covered in our Esoteric Teaching series. Our spiritual tradition goes back thousands of years, and has the wisdom of the ages behind it. So after I’m done with my work in the temple office, I walk. I go way out on a dirt road into the cool, dark, silent night, and I think.
I do not dream, or fill my mind with useless desires and speculations, but use my time in silence to find a deeper silence within myself. One where there are no problems, no imperfections, no time; where there are only endless, delicious love, silent peace and luminous happiness.
Oh yes, I know that place in myself. I found it years ago, when I was living by myself, meditating deep in the jungles of Kauai. But that is a different story, for another day.
Today I want you to know that it is possible to find your perfect body. The way is known, and the path is well mapped. Many have traveled it, and a few have returned to show the way to others: the way into the silent, peaceful and timeless world of perfect love.
