You can imagine that there is a spiritual world, and that you are a spiritual being. You can imagine having spiritual relationships, spiritual ecstasies. But dreaming is not reality. Imagination is not experience. You may have some theories, but no actual knowledge how to manifest these dreams. The Esoteric Teaching can give you this knowledge, but first you have to give up the imaginary spiritual path for real spiritual life. Here's how:
Speculation Versus Revelation |
Most modern spiritual paths, especially the so-called ‘New Age’ paths, share a common origin. The ancient path of jñāna-yoga used speculation and imagination to project an imaginary image of impersonal enlightenment; then the yogī was supposed to meditate on that imaginary dream. |
Seduced by Untruth |
“In the beginning was the void…” Nihilism. Isn’t it ironic how so many theologies try to convince us that you can create something out of nothing? Of course, they hide the stark illogic of this impossible proposition with fine words, calling it ‘oneness,’ ‘unity,’ or even ‘brahman.’ At least the Theravada Buddhists are openly voidist. But voidism lurks covertly behind many respectable religious and spiritual fronts: Judaism, most schools of yoga and Vedanta, even most Christian sects declare that God is ultimately impersonal and formless, if you read the fine print. And let’s not forget reductionistic materialistic science—that supposed bastion of empiricism! It tries to tell us that before the Big Bang was… well, nothing. |
‘Oneness’ is Really Nothingness |
The concept of ‘oneness’, used so glibly in various so-called spiritual teachings, is an ontological impossibility. Oneness means identity, an abstract function of Aristotelian logic that is often misapplied. Identity is only possible between abstractions such as classes. It is a bit of mathematical or logical sleight-of-hand. The misconception that God is an ocean of consciousness, and the individual living entity is a drop that can merge back into that ocean, is a cruel myth. It gives us a false conception of God as impersonal, a false image of spiritual existence, and a false goal that keep us from striving for the real goals of wisdom, spiritual advancement and love of Godhead. |
